I didn't know this could happen in a dream, please help!
I have been having some strange dreams lately and they have been scaring me. Let me give you some background really quick cause I figure that would help. I'm a 21 year old college student and my mom passed away 6 months ago. So now onto the dreams. I've had this dream a couple of times and it always has to do with my mom revealing that she never died, but thats not the wierd part. The part that scares me is that every time I have these dreams, I realize that I am dreaming, but the dreams don't stop. I stay in my dream world completly aware that I am asleep. Does anyone have any insight to what this means?

Thats a tough one. I think its your brain denying that shes dead and that you need to move on. I dont know, but thats all i can come up with.

Maybe you're lucid dreaming. Pretend you're talking to someone, and ask what you're supposed to get out of this dream. You might get an answer.

PlaneDreamer,
It is interesting when this happens in a dream. What you have described is called Lucid Dreaming, whereby you become consciously aware in the unconscious state of sleeping. Do not be afraid by this, there is nothing strange going on, try and embrace the experience and get some answers from your dream.
Many people try very hard to attain lucidity in dreams and it is happening naturally for you which is a wonderful experience.
If it is a lucid dream your dream will most probably be far more vivid than any other dream you have had.
Have you ever had these sorts of dreams before your mother passed away?
If not, I could only assume that perhaps dealing with your grief is bringing on these lucid experiences. Your dream referring to the fact that your mother is telling you she never died, is symbolising your grief at her passing and your desire for it all to "just be a dream" and for her death to not be real.
These dreams are a normal progression of grief so perhaps explore your dreams and next time you have the dream do not be afraid but perhaps ask your mother some questions. Why did she pretend to die? Or where is she now? Or perhaps tell her yourself that she really is dead. You will know yourself what questions to ask.
I hope that helps in some way. If you are interested I have a dream related website that can help you understand dreams and lucidity www.realmeaningofdreams.com . Take a look if you want to understand more about this form of dreaming.
Best wishes

If you believe in an afterlife...this dream could be your mother contacting you. She could be trying to tell you that she still exists and that you shouldn't be sad because she is always with you. And you are lucid dreaming as well.
